Success Library: Great Relationships

There are many reasons people want to build better relationships. Perhaps you’d like get along better with your colleagues, bosses, or employees at work; or maybe you’d just like to create better dialogue or more happy times and memories with your spouse or children. Regardless of the reasons for wanting to develop great relationships, the end goal is the same: feeling fully enriched by and connected to the important people in our lives; and being able to engage in meaningful and productive interactions with others.

Whatever your reasons, there are certain steps to follow along the way – a series of smaller outcomes that lead to the end goal:

1. Identify exactly what you want and need from your relationships

2. Develop a deeper understanding of yourself and how you typically relate to others

3. Really know and understand the people with whom you want to build better relationships

4. Identify what you can change or improve in yourself and in your relationships

5. Implement and practice these strategies and behaviors

Each of these steps stands on its own as one piece of the larger puzzle: an individual task that needs to be thoroughly explored and mastered before moving onto the next. Taken together, this series of tasks makes up a complete system for developing great relationships in your life. Take the time to really explore each of them and see how your relationships unfold.

(And for a more detailed walk-through with practical examples and exercises, please see the ebook Building Better Relationships.)
